Withholding tax
Withholding tax is income tax deducted at source by the person paying you, such as an employer, a bank or a client, and deposited against your name.
It is advance tax, not a separate levy, and is adjustable against your annual liability when you file. Without filing, tax withheld in excess of your actual liability is never recovered.
