Every month
  • Monthly sales tax return

    18th of every month

    Every registered sales tax person

The return with its annexures is due by the 18th of the following month, and the payment challan by the 15th. Late filing blocks your buyers' input tax claim.

  • Provincial sales tax on services return

    15th of every month

Businesses registered with BRA, PRA, SRB or KPRA

Most provincial authorities require the monthly return by the 15th. Confirm the exact date with your authority, as they differ.

  • Withholding tax statement under section 165

    20th of every month

    Every withholding agent

The statement of tax deducted is filed monthly. Mismatches between this statement and your expense claims are the most common trigger for a section 161 notice.

Once or four times a year
  • Income tax return and wealth statement

    30 September

Every individual, AOP and business required to file

The return for the tax year that ended on 30 June is due. Filing after this date means a penalty under section 182 and removal from the Active Taxpayers List until the surcharge is paid.

    Penalty if missed
  • Company income tax return

    31 December

Companies with a 30 June year end

Companies file by 31 December for a June year end. Companies with a December year end file by 30 September.

    Penalty if missed

    25 September

Companies and individuals liable to advance tax under section 147

Quarterly advance tax for July to September. Missing it attracts default surcharge under section 205.

  • Advance tax instalment, second quarter

    25 December

Companies and individuals liable to advance tax under section 147

Quarterly advance tax for October to December.

  • Advance tax instalment, third quarter

  • Advance tax instalment, fourth quarter

    15 June

Companies and individuals liable to advance tax under section 147

The final instalment falls on 15 June, earlier in the month than the others. This one is missed most often.

  • SECP annual return

    30 January

    Every registered company

Form A and the annual return are filed with the SECP within thirty days of the annual general meeting. Penalties accrue against the directors personally.

  • Tax year ends

    30 June

    Everyone

The Pakistani tax year runs 1 July to 30 June. Assets held and income earned up to this date go into the return you file in September.

Common questions

When is the income tax return deadline in Pakistan?
30 September for individuals and AOPs, covering the tax year that ended on the previous 30 June. Companies with a June year end file by 31 December.
When is the monthly sales tax return due?
The return is due by the 18th of the following month, with the payment challan deposited by the 15th. Both dates matter, because paying late still attracts default surcharge.
Does the FBR extend the filing deadline?
It often does, usually by a few weeks and usually announced close to the date. Relying on an extension is risky, because a return filed after the original date can still be treated as late for ATL purposes in some cases.
What happens if I miss the deadline?
A penalty applies under section 182, and your name drops off the Active Taxpayers List until you pay the surcharge under section 182A. In the meantime you pay non-filer rates on banking, vehicles and property.
