Common questions
- What is section 236K on a property purchase?
- Section 236K is advance income tax collected from the buyer when a property transfer is registered. The rate depends on the value of the property and on whether the buyer is on the Active Taxpayers List.
- What is section 236C on a property sale?
- Section 236C is advance income tax collected from the seller at the time of transfer. Like 236K it is adjustable against your annual tax liability when you file your return.
- How much more does a non-filer pay on property in Pakistan?
- A non-filer buying property pays several times the filer rate, and on a large transaction that difference runs into millions of rupees. Becoming a filer before the transfer is almost always cheaper than the extra tax.
- What is a late filer for property tax?
- A late filer is someone who filed the return after the due date. A separate, middle rate applies to them, higher than the filer rate but lower than the non-filer rate.
- Is this tax refundable?
- Advance tax under 236C and 236K is adjustable, not a separate final tax for most taxpayers. You claim it in your return against your total liability, which is another reason filing matters.
